Some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Saturday, converged on the Sunyani Coronation Park for the party’s manifesto launch, but had various objects to showcase, including a coffin, embossed with the pictures of the NPP Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.
It is unclear what message the supporters were seeking to communicate, particularly when some persons in the ruling party, have attempted to use the health status of Nana Addo as a campaign tool.
The party has also said they will retire Nana Addo this year, to kill his dreams of leading the country.
Although President Mahama has stated categorically that he will not campaign on anybody’s health status, some supporters of his party, have suggested that Nana Addo is not healthy to prosecute a vigorous campaign, let alone lead the country.
The speculations deepened when the Africa Watch Magazine recently published a report alleging that Nana Addo has caner. Nana Addo’s personal physician has however denied the report and described it as malicious.
Manifesto launch
The party is expected to launch its much-talked about Manifesto ahead of the December elections, in the Brong Ahafo Regional capital, Sunyani today.
The event, which will be attended by the President, and NDC presidential nominee, John Dramani Mahama, is also expecting some fifty thousand supporters and sympathisers to converge on the Sunyani Coronation Park.
The launch precedes an event at the Banquet Hall of the State House last Tuesday, where President Mahama gave what he called highlights of the full manifesto which is being launched today.
Heavy rain threatens NDC manifesto launch
Meanwhile intermittent rain in the area since yesterday [Friday], has hampered preparations on the ground.
The pitch of the Sunyani coronation park, venue for the launch has become muddy.
The work of journalists dispatched to cover the event has also been halted as the rain has disrupted coverage, forcing everyone to take refuge under canopies mounted at the park.
