Nana Addo consoles Otumfuo over his mother’s death whose sudden demise occurred on Monday, November 15
New Patriotic Party’s presidential flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has sent a condolence message to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene over the death of his mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwah Ampem, the Asantehemaa.
Nana Akufo-Addo’s message was issued on his behalf by his wife, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, at the Manhyia Palace on Thursday. Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo was accompanied by Samira Bawumia, wife of Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the vice presidential candidate of the NPP and other party loyalists in the persons of Mr. Frederick Fredua Anto, First Vice Chairman of the NPP; MP for Manhyia South, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh and the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi.
The queen mother have reportedly been in poor health condition for some time now; however, the actual cause of her death is not yet clear to the media but some sources reveal she died in her sleep.
The Asantehemaa served as the royal mother for 39 years having been crowned in 1977 as the 13th Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom. Late Afia Kobi witnessed the reign of the late Asantehene Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, who reigned from 1970 to 1999.
In honour of the late Queen Mother, it has been ordered that no funeral, drumming and noise making be made in the Ashanti Kingdom until the funeral rites of the Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II is completed.
