In an effort to eliminate HIV by 2020 through raising community awareness, Namibia will embark on a community mobilization and engagement on HIV/Aids in the capital city, Windhoek on Nov. 10.
The City of Windhoek in collaboration with UNAIDS and the Office of the First Lady and UNICEF announced on Wednesday that the drive will raise awareness and promote uptake of Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission in Namibia and ensure no child is born with HIV and that their mothers are kept alive.
According to the city authorities, the community engagement initiative is part of the First Lady’s work in her newly appointed role as UNAIDS Special Advocate for Young Women and Adolescent Girls, through which she will champion the Start Free, Stay Free, AIDS Free agenda towards the elimination of new HIV infections among children.
