Namibia is hosting the first conference on the basement geology and ore genesis in the country which kicked off Monday in the capital city Windhoek.
The event brought together a diverse section of people from various professions and different countries, including Botswana, South Africa and Denmark to share ideas on the future of the exploration and mining industry in Namibia and in neighbouring countries.
Namibia’s deputy minister of mines and energy, Kornelia Shilunga, on Monday said, the main objective of this conference is to contribute positively to the development and practice of more efficient and less costly methods of locating new mineral deposits and ultimately produce useful end products which will enhance economic development in Namibia and elsewhere.
“A concern that comes to mind is on how will this and future conferences of this nature make a positive contribution to the development of the mining industry and national economies as a whole,” he said.
According to Shilunga, the devoted application and development of new research projects will open new frontiers for exploration, mining and mineral processing. Enditem
