Namibia is in the process of selecting a team that will represent the country at the South African Regional Championships and the World Robotics Championships in 2017.
FABrication Laboratory (FABlab), Director and Co-founder, Kirstin Wiedow told Xinhua on Tuesday that, the first group of Robotics students and scholars will only be finalised in early January to prepare for the competition slated for April.
According to her, FABlab is working with University of South Africa’s I-SET team, Patricia Gouws and Kabelo Pheeha, creating the first Namibian robotics team at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST).
Wiedow said there will be five teams competing with 5 to 10 members per team, “if we get enough scholars to sign-up, they will then compete to be the top team representing the country in the World Robotics Competition,” she added.
Meanwhile, Namibia held its 4th Annual Institutional Technology Day of NUST on Oct. 26.
The day saw presentations from faculty and partners covering subjects like mobile technologies and the Toyota Prius and NUST’s very own Solar Taxi.
Wiedow added that robots are by no means just the future, as they are becoming an integral part of everyday life and can help improve people’s lives. Enditem
