The Former Ashanti Regional Minister John Alexander Ackon has launched a scathing attack on the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yunyoo Constituency Joseph Bipoba Naabu for blaming the former President John Dramani on the opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) woeful defeat in the 2016 elections.
The MP has been ranting on the airwaves that Mr Mahama should not be given the second chance to lead the party in 2020.
But speaking on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkra, Mr Ackon said the MP is attempting to ride on the former President’s popularity.
He questioned if anybody knew Naabu before he started his controversy.
‘If I want to be popular in this world, I can make a statement which will intend create controversy which will make me popular within few days.
He is frustrated because he didn’t receive any ministerial appointment from the former President, hence his rant. Until Naabu’s comments about former President Mahama, nobody knew him.
The only time people are hearing about him is when he started his controversial statements,’ he said.
The former Regional Minister said it is needless for some party members to play the blame game describing the arguments by the party supporters taking that position as weak.
He warned that the MP and other aggrieved members of NDC’s comments can never make Mahama unpopular saying the electorates will decide.
‘Whether you play the blame game or not, NDC is in opposition, the loss affects every NDC member.
Anybody who shifts blame immediately after defeat is a weak person. Naabu should rather stop the unnecessary comments and rather give his contributions to the Prof. Kwesi Botchwey’s committee towards the re-organisation of the party.
Anybody who becomes strong and vociferous after a defeat is a weak person and not a strong person, a strong person helps to build the party and not drag it to the mud,’ he pointed out.
He admonished the party members to desist from attacking the personality of the former President and other party gurus saying it will not augur well for the party.
Mr Ackon described Mr Mahama as a credible candidate for the NDC saying he is already marketed and intelligent.
He remarked that the party’s strong pillar is the Minority in Parliament which has been facing off with the majority on issues on the floor of the house and national issues.
