President Akufo-Addo has said he will take away all the components of fees from secondary education in order to give meaning to his free SHS policy.
He said boarding fees, admission fees, library fees, examination fees and all the other charges along with tuition fee will be completely absorbed by the government when the policy is put into action in September this year.
The President disclosed this when he joined Students, past students and leadership of the Okuapeman School in Akropong Akuapem as they celebrate their 60th anniversary under the theme “One Vision, Many lives”.
The President was accompanied by the Minister of Education, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Regional Reorganization, Dan Botwe, Minister for Information, Mustapha Hamid and MP for Akropong, Nana Ama Dokua Akua Asiamah.
This visit is the first to any senior high school by the President since he assumed office.
He also added that his government is convinced that like Singapore, the only viable way to develop Ghana is to educate every Ghanaian and to ensure that the county has a literate population.
He noted his administration apart from restoring teacher trainee allowances in its first budget, scheduled for next month, will liaise with GNAT to develop relevant incentives for teachers in the country.
