Mentoring Women Ghana (MWG,) a non-governmental organization has launched its annual mentoring women’s walk to commemorate the celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day.
The walk which will last for 10 days is on the theme, “Be Bold for Change”.
It is scheduled for March 8 to March 18, 2017.
According to the NGO, the walk would provide adequate time for mentees and mentors signed on to the mentoring walk program to bond and share ideas.
In her remarks, a mentee, Dorcas Larbi said, before she signed on to the program, she was not certain as to whether her decision to work in the banking sector was right.
However, she said with the help of her mentor, she found herself following her passion and now, “ I work as a teacher where I enjoy greatly”.
A mentor, Madam Victoria Blankson also said although some of the girls who signed up to be mentored did something different from their initial interests but said, through one-on-one sessions, “today they are happy with what they are doing for living”.
According to her, most of the girls followed their ‘clicks’ and friends who before entering into the university had particular subjects or disciplines they wanted to read, while others had their parents who wanted them to follow particular career paths.
Nevertheless, she said after good mentorship, they were able to make the right choices.
“Some of them took our advice and they are doing great in their fields now,” she added.
Earlier, Executive Director and founder of Mentoring Women Ghana, Madam Brigitte Dzogbenuku pleaded with the mentors to take their time in the mentoring process.
She said it was the duty of the mentors to guide and not to guard the mentees.
