Some angry residents of Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti Region are angry at what they describe as “road for votes” projects embarked upon by Member of Parliament for the area, Muntaka Mubarak.
They are incensed at the sudden construction work rapidly going on at one of the terrible roads in the constituency located at the busy Aboabo post office area.
This is coming after several complaints by people and opinion leaders in the area fell on deaf ears. With barely 47 days to the presidential and parliamentary elections, Muntaka Mubarak uploaded pics of construction works busily taking place on the half-kilometer roads.
One of the opinion leaders, Alhaji Ramadan Issah said “Mubarik doesn’t respect us…he thinks he can take us for granted.”
“How long now since we start complain about this road? He and the MCE (for Asokore Mampong) don’t care about us. You live in this constituency with us, I know you since you were born till today that you have become a journalist, don’t you see how cars have been killing our children here everyday”, he lamented to abusuafmonline.com’s Muftaw Mohammed.
He adds, “you have been passing here everyday, why have you stopped driving here, because you are afraid your car will break down on the road.”
Alhaji Issah says “so now election is here and he think oh as for Asawase people there’s no problem because it’s our world bank…that’s a lie, now there’s problem because we won’t vote because of roads.”
“How many days will it take to fix the road, but for a very long time we have seen accidents, cars breaking down and children knocked down by cars everyday and no one cares because several phone calls to the authorities have not yielded any results,” he concluded.
