The sixth edition of MTN’s annual Valentine’s Day blood donation exercise was hugely successful, with 2,551 pints of blood collected at ten regions in Ghana.
MTN’s ‘Save A Life’ campaign targeted 2,017 pints of blood but were able to exceed their targets with 2,551 pints this year.
The blood collected was to restock the National Blood Bank, Cape Coast Regional Hospital, Efia Nkwanta Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Bolga Regional Hospital and other health centres.
The turn up for the donation in Accra was impressive as the exercise attracted a large number of MTN employees and Senior Management officials including Chief Executive Officer Ebenezer Twum Asante and other top executives and the general public.
Mrs. Cynthia Lumor, Executive Director of the MTN Ghana Foundation in a press briefing said having recognised the seriousness of the perennial blood shortage at the National Transfusion Service, the foundation decided to help save more lives by restocking the National blood bank with the blood donated.
“Since the inception of the blood donation exercise, MTN Foundation has collected over 3,715 pints of blood to support the National Transfusion service and other regional hospitals. We believe that as a result of this exercise we’ve been able to save many lives and are very pleased about this achievement,” she noted.
She said, “The response to this year’s appeal has been amazing and we are grateful to all the people who turned up to donate or volunteer their services. We are also grateful to the media who publicized the initiative and ensured this great turnout.”
MTN Ghana Foundation instituted the blood donation exercise in 2011 and the Foundation was adjudged the Highest Corporate Blood Donor by the National Blood Bank in 2013 and second highest Corporate Blood Donor in 2014.
