Telecommunications giant, Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN), has organised a blood donation exercise in Cape Coast in the Central Region to save lives of people.
The exercise, which was organised on Valentine’s Day yesterday as the company’s way of showing love to the public also formed part of the its corporate social responsibility.
Briefing the media during the exercise, the Human Resource Business Partner of the company in the Western and Central Regions, Madam Regina Arkaifie, explained that the exercise begun six years ago and has since become an annual event.
She noted that the exercise was in response to a distress call by the Ghana Blood Bank to help stock its bank since only 66% out of the total 250,000 pints of blood was needed annually.
According to her, the nationwide programme dubbed: “Operation 2017,” was expected to raise 2,017 pints of blood to save people.
Madam Arkaifie disclosed that last year the company exceeded its target of 1,200 by raising 1,645, and expressed the hope that once again they will raise more this year.
She added that the exercise, which was done in collaboration with the Central Regional Teaching Hospital, was expected to raise 400 pints of blood for the Cape Coast metropolis alone.
She advised Ghanaians to make blood donation a regular habit to help save lives when the need arises.
