The first lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, on Sunday joined inmates of the Chance for Children Home at Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region to celebrate her 66th birthday with a donation of food items among others. The children were presented with bags of rice, oil, biscuits, drinks, diapers, shoes, milk, Milo, sardines and tissue papers.
“I know things are not easy for places like this [orphanages]. God has been good to me; I’m 66 years old today and I pray that you all live beyond 66 years and God bless each and every one of you and that you enjoy the things that I brought you,” she said. Mrs Akufo-Addo extended the President’s greetings to the children and caregivers of the orphanage, saying “he’s also thinking of places like this and I’m sure there will be some help one of these days.She commended the teachers for their good work and promised to come back again
Mr Awuley Nartey, Director of the Home thanked the first lady and wished her a fruitful long life. Chance for Children is an international NGO established by a Ghanaian and Swiss, Mr Amon Kotey and Daniela Ruedisueli Sodja to reach out to children living on the street to identify their needs and empower them.
Inmates are later reintegrated with their families and support them when necessary.
