Tension is building up at Ekumfi Constituency in the Central Region as the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have both vowed not to see eye to eye in the area.
Information available to Today indicates that the former Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Mr. Abeiku Crentsil, was on Friday, February 3, 2017 reportedly chased with a gun by one, Ato Rasta, believed to be the chief bodyguard of the MP for the area, Mr. Ato Cudjoe.
Breaking the news to Today immediately after the incident in a telephone interview, Mr. Crentsil stated that he was embarking on a “thank you tour” at Eyisam when Ato Rasta emerged from nowhere with the gun threatening to kill him for no apparent reason.
He narrated that he managed to sneak into his car with the help of some of his supporters and drove away to Nanabin with the hope of escaping from the gun wielding Ato Rasta but he accosted him over there too.
According to him, one of the chiefs of the town had to hide him in his house for more than three hours before the police arrived to escort him and his entourage away.
Quizzed as to what warranted that attack, Mr. Crentsil stated that he did not know why Ato Rasta was after his life, saying the confusion started after he requested for a recount of the ballot after he lost the December 7 polls which did not go down well with his opponent.
He expressed disappointment in the police in the area for their lackadaisical attitude in handling the issue, pointing out that the police took so long in coming to his aid when he called for their help.
He indicated that his statement has been taken and expressed the hope that the culprit will be dealt with accordingly.
But in a sharp rebuttal, the Ekumfi Constituency Secretary of the NPP, Mr. Ebenezer Monney, has vehemently denied that a thing of that nature happened in the constituency.
According to him, the constituency is very peaceful and noted that the former MP rather intends to create mayhem in the area with his actions.
He pointed out that for the past 24 years the NDC has been winning in the area with no confusion being created by the NPP and could not understand why the NDC was creating all sort of erroneous impressions since they lost the seat.
He disclosed that the NPP has also reported the development to the police and was patiently waiting for the decision of the police.
Meanwhile, Today has gathered that supporters of the NDC in the area were planning to seek revenge.
