Former Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, John Kwabena Oti Bless, has urged government to provide more funds to staple crop farmers whose produce directly feed the nation.
He said he was not happy that cocoa farmers were being given preferential treatment while those engaged in staple farming are left to their fate.
Speaking on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene on Tuesday said staple crop farmers were not being helped like cocoa farmers, adding “we must also make sure we give yam farmers loans to increase their yields because they provide food for people on daily basis”.
Asked why he was not sworn in as a Deputy Minister despite parliamentary approval of his nomination, the National Democratic Congress MP said he could not honour an invitation for the ceremony because it was an election year.
“The election was important to me at that time because I was campaigning”, he added.
