Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, has described as “criminal” the recent mob action by some residents of Kumasi against a woman alleged to have stolen an amount of Gh¢1,100.
The Police PRO was speaking on Accra-based Class FM’s Executive Morning Show yesterday.
He warned that the Ashanti Regional Police Command will be swift to put out a release to warn the general public and perpetrators to desist from these mob actions that have become increasingly rampant in the region.
He stated that in times when such incidents rear its ugly head, the police do series of activities which include putting out releases and educating the general public to report people who have been engaged in various crimes for proper investigations and prosecution by the police.
According to him, social media has made it easy for such videos to spread quickly thereby resulting in the general public losing trust in the justice system.
“In spite of this mob actions are unacceptable and were punishable by law,” he warned.
He urged the general public to report any of such instances and those who they suspected were criminals for the law to deal with them accordingly.
He assured the general public that the perpetrators of the Kumasi crime will be brought to book.
