The minority leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, has condemned the recent seizure of some state institutions and agencies by some members of the New Patriotic Party in parts of the country.
The practice, which he admitted is not peculiar to the NPP, could undermine the national peace and coercion if efforts are not made to address the phenomenon that has become cycle every election year.
Some members of the NPP in parts of the country have after the declaration of results of the December 7, 2017 elections, been taking over the management of some state institutions and agencies, something that the party executives.
Mr Iddrisu said while the NPP members have every right to celebrate their electoral victory, the excesses of that celebration is condemnable.
He said the phenomenon borders on criminality, hence the need for law enforcement agencies take decisive action in bringing an end to it.
“In order to maintain peace and harmony, one must respect the right of other people and not the abuses of people,” he stated Mr Iddrisu who is the Member of Parliament for Tamale South has called for offenders to be punished per the law, and urge parliament to take a stand on the phenomenon.
The majority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu on his part said the action by the said NPP members was triggered by similar action by NDC members in the past, reminding the House of how some people were assaulted in Agbogbloshie in Accra. Notwithstanding, he said: “We should condemn what is condemnable”, adding “if it was not good at the time , it is also not good today” He also urged the MPs to take a stand on the phenomenon.
