NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority Caucus in Parliament has described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first 100 days in office as full of “deception, thuggery, corruption and ostentation.”
According to them, the fact that Akufo-Addo got elected against all odds should not construe his electoral victory to mean an endorsement of a violent approach to governance.
Addressing the media in Accra yesterday on the one hundred days of President Akufo- Addo-led administration, the Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi, opined that Ghana under the Akufo-Addo government is witnessing state-sponsored thuggery and terrorism.
“This state of affairs has come to define the first one hundred days of this government and there appears to be no end in sight,” he added.
The Ketu North law-maker further explained that Nana Addo’s first one hundred days had been charaterised by what he termed as “broken promises; shameful plagiarism by no mean a person than the President himself; gross incompetence’ as was classically exhibited in the spare parts fiasco, and unprecedented bribery and conflict of interest in high places.
“It has been one hundred days of hardships; one hundred days of deceit; one hundred days of wasteful expenditure on presidential swearing in ceremonies in Accra and Kyebi. It has also been one hundred days of wasteful expenditure on the Ghana at 60 celebrations,” the deputy minority leader stated.
The minority caucus was of the opinion that in the area of security, the Akufo-Addo administration performed abysmally.
He cited the recent ‘NPP thugs,’ the Delta Force, who carried out a shocking attack on the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator at the Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi and also the attack on a Circuit Court Judge, Justice Mary Nsenkyire, in Kumasi.
Hon. Avedzi however, noted that the NPP had been cautioned many times about the actions of these groups, but refused to heed to the advice.
He observed that by failing to take a decisive action against these groups, President Akufo-Addo was only living the violent posturing that has been associated with him.
“Everything that has happened since Akufo-Addo came to power vindicates our position. Sadly, Nana Akufo-Addo showed this thuggery and terrorism in opposition and Ghana is now reaping the fruits,” he reiterated.
According to him, the Minority Caucus was worried that there seem to be no end in sight to the activities of groups such as “Invisible Forces,” “Kandahar Boys” and “Delta Force, “because the President has not exhibited the readiness to deal with them.”
“The President owes it to the people of Ghana, irrespective of their political affiliations or professions, the protection they need to go about their daily activities without trepidation,” he stated.
He was emphatic that the recent incidents of assaults, harassment and intimidation will scare investors and tourists planning to visit the country.
“The NPP must know that what may have won them power will not sustain them in office…for the day of reckoning comes, they will be found wanting,” he added.
