AS part of his familiarisation with his ministry and agencies, Minister of Transport, Kwaku Amankwaah Ofori Asiamah, has visited the Ghana Shipper’s Authority in Takoradi in the Western.
In an address, Deputy Chief Executive of Ghana Shipper’s Authority (GSA), Mrs. Asana Owu, expressed her delight at the visit by the minister.
She revealed that GSA has established the Shippers Committee, which organises quarterly meetings, to deliberate on pertinent issues in the maritime industry.
The committee, she noted, consists of importers, exporters and stakeholders, who meet to discuss issues concerning them and try also to provide solutions.
The committee also educates shippers by organising programmes such as Gross Mass Education, sensitisation, workshops, open fora and outreach programmes in the country.
Mrs. Owu said such activities provide up to date information and solutions to some of the challenges facing the industry.
She added that as part of the strategic direction, the authority seeks to provide infrastructure for the benefit of exporters and importers to make them competitive.
A land has also been secured purposely for warehousing and repair shops for artisan servicing the oil and gas sector, she disclosed.
Mrs. Owu admitted the public private partnership with stellar logistics has brought a lot of benefits.
She stressed that despite its success GSA has been facing challenges, especially with the road network, and pleaded with government to come to their aid.
Hon. Amankwaah Ofori Asiamah therefore expressed government’s appreciation for the good work the Authority had done so far.
He explained that the purpose of his visit was to acquaint himself with operations of agencies under his ministry and to listen to their concerns and see the way forward.
He encouraged the agency to work hard, and also gave assurance of his full support.
