Minister of Transport, Mr. Kwaku Amankwaah Ofori Asiamah, and members of his Ministry, has paid a visit to the Western regional office of the Driver’s and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
The visit afforded the minister the opportunity to familiarise himself with operations of the DVLA in the region.
Western Regional Manager of DVLA, Mr. Emmanuel T. K Narh, said his outfit was looking forward to a lasting relationship with the ministry.
Since his (minister’s) appointment, he said a thorough investigation has been carried out and has identified several challenges including the lack of office accommodation, unavailability of a fence wall to enhance security, deplorable nature of field operation and inadequate staff.
“The office space can’t accommodate the staff and visitors creating congestion. With previous staff number of 13, currently we have 22 staff members comprising 6 technical staff members and 16 administrative officers. The nature of their field of operation is also in a bad state making both human and vehicular movement impossible during bad weather conditions,” he disclosed.
Mr. Narh said some occupants on their premises have refused to relocate even though strong measures had been applied.
Addressing management and staff, the minister said his visit to the DVLA was to enable him listen to their concerns and plan on how to improve their conditions of service.
He was accompanied by the Director of Takoradi Port, Captain Afadzi, Deputy Chief Executive of Ghana Shipper’s Authority, Mrs. Asana, Western regional Manager of DVLA, Owusu, Mr. Emmanuel T. K. Narh and members of the transport ministry and some selected media houses.
