Omanhene of Sunyani Tradtional Area in the Brong Ahafo Region, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, has urged the new Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, to fight illegal mining (galamsey) in the region.
The development, he claimed, has led to the drying up of the Tano River leading to the shutdown of the Ghana Water Company Limited’s (GWCL’s) plant at Abesim.
He made the appeal when the minister paid a courtesy call on him in his palace to formally introduce himself to him.
Nana Asor Nkrawiri II noted that illegal mining was gradually becoming a canker in the region as well as a security threat.
To this end, he called on the minister to use his office to stop the illegal mining activities in the region.
He also admonished the minister to collaborate with all stakeholders in the region to ensure that illegal mining becomes a thing of the past.
Nana Nkrawiri II also appealed to the minister to complete the construction of the Ring Road which the previous administration started.
Meanwhile, the minister has asked for support from the people to enable him execute his mandate.
According to him, it would be difficult for him alone to implement the government’s programmes in the region without the support of the people.
