The New Patriotic Party MP aspirant for Asunafo South, George Boakye claims the near fatal attack on his household was planned by the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister in concert with some executives of the governing National Democratic Congress.
He told 3FM’s Ewurama Smith on Friday that the attackers had wanted to kill him to give political advantage to the Minister Eric Opoku who is the incumbent MP for the constituency.
“They have gone through the constituency and have seen they would not be able to win the election.
Because I have been a stumbling block to their victory, they have to eliminate me,” he claimed.
When Ewurama demanded for proof, Mr. Boakye said though he had prior information about the attack, it was too late to inform the police.
“I had intelligence five minutes to the attack,” he said.
The incident happened between the hours of 9:30pm and 10:00pm Thursday at his residence at Sankore in the Brong Ahafo Region while he was preparing to go to bed. Though he escaped unhurt, two persons in his house were injured by the gun and machete-wielding men.
Mr. Boakye insisted that those who attacked him were known NDC supporters hired by the Regional Minister.
“The boys who came to attack me are all known…I have every reason to suspect that he(Eric Opoku) is behind it,” he stressed, adding he does not expect the NDC to condemn it because he planned the attack with his party executives there.
He said for some time now he has been insulted by persons assigned by the minister as well as being made the subject for discussion on a radio station owned by the minister.
“I have not done anything, but they are finding a way of bringing me down but he has not been successful,” George Boakye said.
He has formally filed a complaint with the police but the minister was yet to be invited. Correspondent Larry Moses, told 3FM persons he spoke to in the area claimed the crime was perpetuated by known “NDC foot soldiers of the Regional Minister”.
He said he is unable to reach the Regional Minister who is on a tour with the Vice President to comment on the allegations.
