Military officers have closed down Eagle FM, a local radio station in Walewale in the Northern Region.
This followed the manager allowing the Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Sagre Bambangi, who is also a parliamentary candidate, airtime to speak to electorate in the constituency.
Dr Sagre was on the Constituency Caucus programme hosted by the New Patriotic Party’s constituency secretary Simon Ali on Tuesday .
His presence on air within minutes created an atmosphere of tension as supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) massed up at the premises of the radio station to protest.
They claimed he was campaigning against electoral regulations.
The massing up of NDC supporters also attracted some supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who moved in to defend their candidate from any attack.
Though the Member of Parliament has left the station, supporters are still hovering around the premises, 3news.com’s Zubaida Ismail reports.
