Hype man and host of Accra-based Hitz [103.9] FM’s Cruise Control show, Merqury Quaye, has scolded multiple concept group—Charterhouse Ghana—for their refusal to recognise DJs at the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards event (VGMA).
Sharing his views on the VGMA and the need for the event mogul – Charterhouse—to have a second look at recognising DJs at the awards night, Merqury Quaye said:
“I’ve got a big issue with the VGMA. When it comes to the music industry, there are three key players; The Performer, Producer, and the Promoter. I think the VGMA has left out one person over the years and that is the promoter or the DJ.”
“The VGMA doesn’t respect the promoter and it is very unfortunate because for 17yrs of the awards program, the DJ hasn’t been recognized,” the originator of the Ghana DJ Awards and the President of the most vibrant group on twitter – #TurnUpArmy [Merqury Quaye] noted.
“If the DJ doesn’t play the music how does the music get to the fan,” Merqury quizzed rhetorically.
“The producer is recognised, the performer is also recognised so why not the DJ so Charterhouse must come out and explain whether they have issue with DJ’s,” The Life of the Party hit maker [Merqury] said.
“I’m just imagining a single VGMA event without the DJ because it is the DJ that holds down the show,” Merqury Quaye added.
