Some teachers of the Methodist Girls Senior High School (MEGISS) at Mamfe in the Akuapem North District of the Eastern Region, were arrested by the police on Thursday shortly after granting an interview on Onu FM over an on-going impasse between them and the school head.
The teachers are at loggerheads with their Head, Mrs Sylvia Isabella Laryea leading to the aggrieved teachers filing a suit against her at the Koforidua High Court. They accused Mrs. Laryea of masterminding their transfer from the school after they demanded that she accounts for some funds belonging to the school.
Six of the teachers have all received transfer letters signed by the Eastern Regional Director of Education, Ms. Gertrude Mensah and dated 14th October, 2016 to various schools within and outside the region.
In an interview on Onua 95.1 FM morning show ‘Yɛnsɛmpa’ on November 10, 2016, two of the teachers – Christopher Anku and Kwaku Akosa Eniful – alleged that the headmistress sponsored unknown thugs to physically assault them earlier in the day.
A scuffle allegedly took place Thursday morning between some of the teachers and the security at the gate of the Headmistress, when the teachers attempted to entre her residence. They claimed one of their colleagues who had entered the compound was physically assaulted by Mrs Laryea.
Hours after granting the live telephone interview, Onu News gathered that the teachers had been picked up by officers from the Akropong Police Command.
