An Assembly man for Odumase North Electoral Area of the Lower Manya-Krobo Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region Hon. Ayerh Kofi Zhando has exposed the Assembly over massive corruption.
The Assemblyman who is also a member of the Finance and Administration (F&A) Committee of the Assembly described the level of corruption at the Assembly as unacceptable and unfortunate.
According to him, he could not understand why the leadership of the Assembly would keep complaining of money any time the need arises to make money available for project since tolls and taxes are paid every day.
Highlighting some of the corrupt practices at the Assembly, the Odumase North Assemblyman popularly known as Calm Waters mentioned that a revenue generated from conveyance charged of GHC50 per the haulage trucks for carting limestone from Odugblase since 2014 could not be accounted for.
Hon. Zhando further indicated that, the Assembly could not account for the usage of the 2015 common fund of the assembly as well as the 2% share of the common fund for people living with disabilities since 2013.
The Assembly has also been accused of misappropriating of the 2% share of the common fund for strengthening the operations and functioning of the Zonal Councils since he assumed office.
But what appears to let the cat out of the bag was the procurement of a liquid soap at the cost of GHC1000.00 but was costed at GHC2400.00 and three pieces of laptop computers purchased at whopping price of GHC2100.00. Worse of it all the computers could not be traced.
Others include the housing of some National security operatives in a hotel for about a week at the cost of GHC62,000.00 among others.
To this, the Assemblyman said he wrote to the Assembly three months ago to demand for accountability on the expenditure and debt rate of the Assembly since the Municipal Chief Executive took over office as MCE but he couldn’t provide answers to the letter.
The Odumase North Assemblyman has therefore given the Assembly up to Tuesday, November 8, 2016 to respond to the letter else would take the assembly to Economic and Crime Office (EOCO) for financial scrutiny.
The F&A chairman of the Assembly Hon. Mohamed Alhassan Siba when contacted confirmed the presentation of his colleague and assured the general public of his readiness and commitment to expose any member of the Assembly.
