A man believed to be in his early twenties, whose name was given as Paa Kojo, was on Friday, February 4, 2017 given severe lashes at Avenor, a suburb of Accra, for allegedly stealing an Infinix mobile phone.
According to an eye witness, the suspect was a guest who was staying with a friend in a compound house when he allegedly sneaked into a neighbour’s room in the same compound to steal the mobile phone which was being charged.
The witness explained that the owner of the mobile phone noticed his phone was no longer in the room and so raised an alarm.
The witness continued that the owner accused Paa Kojo of stealing his phone since he was the only person in the area at the time.
Following that, residents and shop attendants present came out with canes and lashed him severely despite his plea of innocence.
He was later carried away by sympathisers when they realised he was bleeding profusely.
Unfortunately, when a search was conducted on him later it emerged that he did not have any mobile phone in his possession.
