Voters in the Central Region would boycott the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if the party fails to make former Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur the ‘automatic’ flagbearer of the party for the 2020 elections.
Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako said he would lead the boycott in the Central region to boycott the NDC party.
“If John (Mahama) fails to run for the flagbearer slot, then Amissah-Arthur should be made the automatic candidate…if not those of us from the Central Region would be very angry…I will mobilise all the Central Region and write articles,” he said jokingly.
According to him, the Fantes would demonstrate because they would also want Amissah-Arthur to succeed his boss, former President John Mahama.
This argument, he said is in line with the NDC argument in the run up to the 2016 elections that the NPP hated persons of northern extraction in their party hence their refusal to appoint late Vice President Aliu Mahama as the automatic successor to former President John Agyekum Kufour.
Communicators of the NDC also argued that the NPP only treated Northerners as second class citizens in the party and hence used them and dumped them.
It is for this reason, the party communicators added, that the party always chose northerners as deputies instead of using them as the main candidates.
Same argument, Kweku Baako speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Wednesday said would apply to Fantes if the NDC fails to appoint the former Bank of Ghana Governor as their flagbearer for the 2020 elections.
Fantes, he said would also consider that the NDC also treat them as second class citizens hence consider them as unworthy to lead the party.
