Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has advised President Akufo-Addo to bend double and work to transform Ghana in an enduring manner.
He said considering the experience the President has garnered, it is comforting to know that he is not one to use his office to make money. Let the world say, Nana Akufo-Addo came to fix Ghana, he said.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said these last Saturday when the president paid a courtesy call on him during his three-day official visit to the Ashanti Region.
Citing what he says was a failure of past presidents to heed to his counsel, the Asantehene said the President must provide jobs and quality healthcare to citizens.
When you were announced the winner in last December’s election, someone told a reporter, ‘go and tell ex-President John Mahama that they voted against him out of hunger and anger.
Also, tell Nana Akufo-Addo that if he does not do well we will vote again out of hunger and anger,’ the Asantehene recounted.
The Otumfuo said he advised many past presidents some of whom returned to confess to him that they or their parties would not have lost power if they had listened to him.
He cited former President J. J. Rawlings and J.A. Kufuor adding the late J. E. A Mills also spoke to him 10 days before his death.
My conversation with him centred around what I am telling you now, he said. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II also disclosed that immediate past President John Mahama confessed to him that he may have ignored many of the pieces of advice given him which may have caused him the 2016 election.
Presently, you are the man in charge and Ghanaians voted for you and not any of your appointees, the power they have is what you have delegated to them. So remember Ghana did not give legitimacy to anyone but you.
I will give you good counsel, what Ghanaians are looking for are jobs, good health care and development, he said through a translator.
He charged President Akufo-Addo to work towards leaving behind a lasting legacy.
