The first lady, Lordina Mahama says President John Dramani Mahama’s service to Ghana will be etched in the country’s history and the hearts of Ghanaians.
She has also congratulated president-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo on his victory in the recently held general elections.
Lordina Mahama, in a Facebook post hours after the official declaration of election results by the Electoral Commission in Accra expressed excitement at the opportunity to have served as Ghana’s first lady.
She further congratulated President Mahama for his service to the country through the four-year period and was hopeful President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo will serve Ghana “selflessly and whoke-heartedly.”
John Mahama of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) failed to secure a second four-year-term mandate after losing to the opposition New Patriotic Party’s Nana Akufo-Addo in a general election many have described as being credible and transparent.
Mahama won about 44.4% of total votes cast while Akufo-Addo won 58.85%.
In a public address ahead of the official declaration of the results, John Mahama said “I will like to assure the people of Ghana of my commitment to the sustenance of our country’s democracy and we will work to ensure a smooth transition of our incoming administration. I remain committed to the unity and stability of our great nation.”
“It has been without a doubt, one of the most tremendous privileges of my life to serve this great nation as President and to work on behalf of all Ghanaians. I will leave it to history to be the judge of my time and contributions while in that highest office,” he added.
Meanwhile, the President-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo has assured Ghanaians that he will be a President for all Ghanaians and will work for the common good of the country.
In his first public speech after being declared winner of the polls, he pledged to fulfil all promises he made while on the campaign trail.
