An elder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Ayisi Boateng, has described as “worrisome” the rate at which President John Mahama confirmed two new appointees to head two pro-democracy state institutions, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
Mr. Ayisi Boateng explained that the president has the prerogative to make appointments but at this crucial time that he is about to leave office as the president of Ghana, it was not necessary for him to make appointments.
At a brief ceremony at the Flagstaff House Tuesday, the out-going president swore-in Jospeh Akanjolenur Whittal as the new head of CHRAJ and Josephine Nkrumah to head the NCCE.
Both were deputies in their respective institutions and were in acting capacities as heads of the two institutions until their confirmation.
Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene, Mr. Ayisi Boateng queried, “How can you appoint in this crucial time?”
On the argument that former President Kufuor signed into law the Single Spine few days of his exit, Mr. Ayisi Boateng explained that if Kufuor did something which was not good, why must we repeat it.
“If we want equalization, then the nation will suffer,” he cautioned.
The NPP elder was optimistic that “God will help and guide Nana Addo and Bawumia in their ruling of the nation”, adding that if Nana Akufo-Addo must sacrifice his salaries for Ghana to succeed he will do it for the nation.
