President John Mahama says he remains optimistic about sustaining achievements chalked in the four years of his administration, promising more if he wins his re-election bid.
Presenting highlights of the ruling National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 2016 manifesto at the Banquet Hall in Accra Tuesday, the president said despite global and domestic economic setbacks, Ghana has made significant progress.
“I feel very inspired by the successes we have achieved in the last four years. We can be proud of that record. We will sustain the transformation,” he said.
He listed achievements on the employment, education and infrastructure fronts to buttress his assertion.
“We have built a strong economy for jobs, expanded infrastructure for accelerated development and advanced transparency and accountable governance.
“We have been vindicated as we have seen huge payoffs in terms of access to education, access to healthcare and other social services. This has helped to improve the educational outcomes and favourable health indices for our people.”
He has therefore called for a re-endorsement of his Presidency during polls on December 7 to enable him continue with his economic “transformation”, promising to initiate projects that are consistent with social democratic principles of equity.
“We still have more roads to construct, we have more houses to build, we have additional health facilities to provide and we have more jobs to create,“ he President said.
The NDC’s “Changing Lives, Transforming Ghana” 2016 manifesto will be driven by four thematic areas.
Touting the policy document as a real vehicle for change, President Mahama said the thematic areas of the manifesto are putting people first, strong and resilient economy for job creation, expanding social and economic infrastructure and transparent and accountable governance.
The manifesto will be unveiled on September 17, 2016 in Sunyani, the Brong Ahafo Region capital.
