General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Atik Mohammed has cautioned President John Dramani Mahama to stop deceiving the world with news that Ghana’s economy is resilient.
Speaking on Peace FM’s ‘kokrokoo’, Atik Mohammed expressed disappointment in President John Mahama for painting a good picture about the economy whereas the country is in terrible condition.
He noted that the President was only deceiving the world, forgetting that the leaders he was address at the UN Summit are well aware of the state of Ghana’s economy.
President John Dramani Mahama was at the 71st UN General Assembly in New York where he assured the world leaders that the democratic structures of Ghana will be consolidated after the December polls.
He is reported to have told the world leaders that the country has been resilient and that “Ghana is a leading democracy in Africa.”
“Reading his submissions at the UN General Assembly, he attempted to give a picture of the health of our economy . . . It’s terrible. I mean why is our good President doing this to himself and to our Republic,” Atik Mohammed told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.
Atik Mohammed questioned the President’s integrity before the UN General Assembly, saying ” . .you go and say that our economy is resilient. I mean, for the life of me, how can the President come to the conclusion that our economy is resilient? Again, what are the pointers showing that our economy is resilient?
“I was really [really] disappointed that the President will go and present a rather untrue picture of our economy to the outside world.”
