Government intends to acquire some 10,000 hectares of land up north to resettle all herdsmen and cattle.
President John Mahama is confident the decision would resolve the Fulani and communal clashes in several communities.
He made this known while addressing residents of Sempoa in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region.
Farmers and residents in the Kwahu area in months past have had fatal clashes with the nomadic herdsmen.
Chiefs and residents have demonstrated and petitioned government to act.
President Mahama regretted the incidents recorded across the country and explained that the courts have asked government to resolve the herdsmen and community grievances.
“In the NDC manifesto, we have decided to look for some 10,000 hectors of land where no livelihood takes place,” he told the gathering.
“We pay off the land owners and resettle the herdsmen. We will make sure the veterinary people also are located close to them to care for the cows. Slowly, we shall move them there as we provide water sources too.”
He added that the Hwehwe to Abene road would receive resealing whiles the Abene to Sempoa road is rehabilitated.
On fishing, President Mahama explained that government has plans to improve the sector.
“We have begun giving out outboard motors to fishermen to help expand their business on 30-70 basis as fisher folk pay the 70 at a deposited rate. The women in the chain too – the traders and processors – would also receive MASLOC loans to work with.
“The Ministry of Fisheries would soon visit your community to educate you.
“Some other equipment would be supplied to keep the roasted fish intact.”
On water, he said the National Security Human Programme would visit the community for visibility studies to provide borehole for them to enable them access potable water.
