The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential Candidate says economic policies implemented by President John Mahama are responsible for the hardship in the country.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia says instead of practicing sound economic policies to improve the fortunes of Ghanaians, the President has led an agenda to “create, loot, and share” the nation’s resources.
“Under the eight years of the NDC…President Mahama has been practicing Wayomenomics and not economics,” he said, adding any well-meaning government would look out for common good and not individual interest.
The former Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana (BoG) made these remarks when he addressed hundreds of NPP supporters at the party’s national rally held at the forecourt of the Ghana International Trade Fair Center in Accra, Sunday.
Dr Bawumia has been consistent in criticizing the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what he has described as its “incompetence” in the management of the country.
Although government has brushed aside some of the claims made against it by the NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, there are lingering questions that remain unanswered.
Key among them is the 170 point statements of Dr Bawumia regarding the economy in which he questioned President Mahama’s economic policies which he said are responsible for the collapse of businesses.
No government functionary has attempted to respond to the points raised by the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank.
Dr Bawumia says Ghanaians would be facing a defining moment in three days time when they have to choose the leader of the country for the next four years.
“The people of Ghana have a choice between competence and incompetence, between a man of vision and a man who cannot think far,” he said, adding Ghanaians must make the right choice.
The NDC under President Mahama, he said has demonstrated that it is the most corrupt government in the history of Ghana.
According to him, with meager revenue of GHC20billion former President John Kufuor grew the economy from 3.7 percent to 9.1 percent.
“You saw the economy grow, taxes removed, major infrastructural projects, social interventions, school feeding programme, and LEAP implemented,” he said.
Drawing a sharp contrast, he said the NDC had GHC248billion yet it has eliminated both teacher and nursing trainee allowance, stopped mass cocoa spraying project, and collapsed both the School Feeding Programme and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
“This is the edey bee keke government of President John Dramani Mahama,” he said.
Dr Bawumia said the next NPP government will move away from the practice of awarding government contracts to cronies to sound economic practices.
“We are going to build a new economy that will be business friendly and people friend, we are going to make sure there is prosperity for our people,” he said.
He said the NPP government will usher in what he described as the “golden age of rural development” by allocating $1 million to every district in the country.
“We will restore the teacher and nursing training allowances, we bring one village, one dam,” he said, adding, the Ghanaian economy will be based on these pillars.
