President John Dramani Mahama lacks the will power to fight corruption in his government, the opposition New Patriotic Party has stated.
Addressing a news conference in Accra on Monday, communications director for the party, Nana Akomea, accused President Mahama of failing to deal with the many cases of corruption in his government due to his lack of political will to fight the canker.
According to the NPP, the President has on countless occasions turned a blind eye to several acts of corruption among his appointees saying the president has failed to fulfil his very own conditions for solving the corruption menace in the country.
Nana Akomea added that President Mahama made it very clear at the launch of the NDC’s 2008 manifesto that the conditions for solving the problem of corruption was “an official commitment to deal wth the problem, without which the root of the problem cannot be dealt with.”
He cited the president as having promised to revamp the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice and the Serious Fraud Office while setting up a private prosecutor’s office to enhance the fight against corruption. But the NPP maintains that President John Mahama and the NDC have failed to deliver on these promises.
