Another four-year term under President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership will plunge the country’s economy into the abyss, which would in turn lead to negative growth, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo has said.
“If he is given another two or three years, we might even experience a minus growth,” the three-time presidential candidate stated on the second day of his tour in the Ashanti Region.
According to him, Ghana’s economy declines every year under Mr Mahama’s leadership, adding that the country is “now having an economic growth of less than four per cent but when Kufuor was leaving, it was nine per cent”.
He indicated that Mr Mahama did not seem to have the ability to put the economy on the right trajectory and “that is what I mean by he is a threat to Ghana’s future”.
He indicated that unemployment remained the biggest challenge in Ghana today, with many teeming youth having no jobs to earn a living.
Everybody in the society is going through hardships and if citizens do not get a leader to implement policies to spur development and create jobs, it will lead to a bigger problem in the society.
“Things are not going well, that is why he (Mr Mahama) keeps saying that people will really see his accomplishments in his next term,” he told Kumasi-based Nhyira FM on Thursday, October 20.
Mr Akufo-Addo believes the NPP has competent people who can govern the country and implement policies that will change the fortunes of the country.
