The New Patriotic Party (NPP) lacks the moral right to describe President John Dramani Mahama as incompetent, when it continuously elected a flagbearer who has plummeted the party’s electoral fortunes, Minister of Transport Fifi Kwetey has said.
“Incompetence is when a political party persists in electing a candidate that has caused the decline in that party’s electoral fortune since 2008 and that candidate hasn’t got what it takes to appeal to voters outside of two regions in Ghana.
“That is monumental incompetence on the part of the NPP,” he said Thursday at the ‘Setting The Record Straight’ forum in Accra.
The NPP has constantly labeled Mahama as incompetent – a tag that infuriated the latter, provoking scathing attacks from him to the person of the NPP’s presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo.
But, according to Mr. Kwetey, the description of Mahama by the NPP and its surrogates as “incompetent” is misplaced and that the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition is rather a sign of gargantuan incompetence for persistently electing Akufo-Addo to lead it into elections when his popularity does not go beyond two regions.
“In fact, if you want to continue with NPP’s incompetence we will not leave here today,” he said sarcastically.
Mahama, he said is the real deal in the forthcoming elections not Akufo-Addo – the serial loser.
He pointed out that Mahama as the Chairman of the Economic Management Team of the NDC between 2009 to 2012 led the party to chalk unprecedented feat among which are “the highest GDP growth in history of Ghana in 2011; single digit inflation for nearly three continuous years, the highest cocoa output productions of one million Metric ton since 1993.”
He continued that Mahama still as the head of the Economic Management Team led the NDC to raise resources to take care of the 1 billion cedis arrears left by the NPP including the 1.5 billion TOR debt.
“But today, instead of applauding that man — who absolutely clean the mess the [NPP] left behind – they have the audacity to point to him and call him incompetent,” he said.
