With days to the end of his administration, the Yilo Krobo traditional authority has said president Mahama is the promise-keeping president.
This was established with a confinement of the title on the president in the eastern region where he went to cut sod for the construction of the Eastern Region university.
The event which marked the start of what will be the first public university in the Eastern Region, had the elated members of the Yilo Krobo traditional authorities decorate the president with beads to mark the title of a promise keeper.
The sod cutting ceremony was in fulfilment of a promise made by Mahama during the 2016 election campaigns. It will see to the establishment of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development, as the university will be called once completed.
Speaking during the event, the president assured the people that he will not take their support for granted, hence he ensure that what is due as their fair share of the national cake is given to them.
In April 2016 while on an accounting tour, Mr Mahama had told the people that a legislation for the University was “currently before parliament and that university in Kroboland will make the area a citadel of education in Ghana. It will specialise in Environmental Studies and Agriculture. We know majority of residents [here] are farmers and it will focus on research to help productivity.”
The president went on to explain how the university will be structured. “The university will be a multi-campus institution. The main campus will be on this site and the second campus will be constructed in Donkorkrom on the Afram plains also in the Eastern Region,” he said.
During the event, some supporters took the opportunity to state their sentiments of wanting the president to return in 2020 as the NDC’s flagbearer. Others took the opportunity to cry freely for the lost elections.
