The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo says he has no doubt President John Mahama would concede defeat in Wednesday’s presidential election.
Nana Akufo-Addo who has been projected by 3news.com to win the election, and has so far been congratulated by five other contestants in the election has called on his supporters to remain for the Electoral Commission to confirm his victory.
Addressing a section of the media at his residence Friday afternoon, he said, “I know him a little, and I believe that, he is a Ghanaian patriot, he is an honourable man. If he sees that he has lost, I believe he is the sort of person who will do the right thing and make sure that whatever tensions and anxiety there are in the system are assuaged”.
Nana Akufo-Addo added “We are in a very tricky moment …it’s important all of us behave well, our supporters, general public and specifically the leaders of our country, the responsibility on him is a big one, but I believe that he is capable of meeting this responsibility and working to bring our country together and ensuring the peace and stability of our nation.”
Though the governing National Democratic Congress said it is confident its candidate is likely to win, President Mahama Friday morning told supporters of the party that he is ready to concede if does not win the election.
“I want to assure the nation we will respect the outcome of the elections, positive or negative,” he said.
Nana Akufo-Addo whose party has won more than half of 275 seats in parliament said, “The John Mahama I know is somebody I believe is capable of rising to the occasion.”
