National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Yunyoo in the Northern region says he will vote against former President John Mahama in the party’s presidential primaries should he contest.
Hon. Joseph Naabu Bipoba indicated that, the former President lacks “competence” to lead the NDC’s re-election bid in the 2020 general elections.
Hon. Bipoba comment comes on the back of growing debate about who is better placed to lead the opposition NDC in the 2020 elections.
Whiles some party executives are impressing upon Mr. Mahama to lead the party to wrestle power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), others believe a new candidate will be the panacea for victory in the elections.
But Hon. Bipoba in an exclusive interview with Adom News’ Parliamentary correspondent, Abednego Asante Asiedu said former President Mahama will be a bad choice for the NDC.
“He was the president and contest with Nana Akufo-Addo and lost miserably so if President Mahama comes, what is he going to do, is he the only person” he quizzed.
The Yunyoo said former President Mahama is to blame for NDC’s shameful defeat in the 2016 general elections because he surrounded himself with political neophytes like former Communications Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah at the presidency “who told him nothing but lies”.
“People at the presidency were just telling him lies. Take Omane Boamah, what experience has he got in politics? If he goes to contest an election at where he comes from, can he win but the president was listen to such people?” he asked.
Hon. Yunyoo is convinced if the former President is made flagbearer of the NDC in the 202 elections, “he [Mahama] will mess up more”.
The NDC MP urged former President Mahama not to heed to the call of ‘bootlickers and save the little integrity left’.
“I want to tell you categorically that if he [Mahama] comes, he will lose miserably [in the party’s primaries] so Mahama not to listen to his appointees” he stated.
