A Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described John Dramani Mahama as the worst president in the history of Ghana, especially for the northern part of the country.
Anthony Karbo explained that, a president from a tradition in which righteousness, discipline, honesty and integrity are hallmarks has “devalued the northern brand”.
The NPP youth activist was reacting to President Mahama’s call on the people in the three regions of the North to vote for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) because it is the only party that allows Northerners to rise to the height of political power in Ghana.
The President added, he is looking forward to the day when Dr. Bawumia, the vice presidential candidate of the NPP would want to contest for the presidency on the ticket of the NPP.
But Anthony Karbo on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, said President Mahama will have the shock of his life in the December 7 polls.
He bemoaned how the current government, “led by someone who proudly describes himself as a Northern President,” has thrown away the principles of discipline, honesty and integrity.
Mr. Karbo, who is the NPP parliamentary candidate for Lawra, cited how funds meant to develop the three regions of the north under SADA was looted and shared by “classmates” of the President without any punishment.
“If you cannot take action on your own people, what is the guarantee that you can take action on others” he quizzed.
As an image cleansing campaign to redeem their image, Karbo said Northerners have found solace in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, “a man of integrity” to restore their dented image.
“His own people have not voted for him [Mahama] as much as they voted for Nana Akufo-Addo, former Presidents Jerry Rawlings, John Kufuor and the late Atta Mills and they will repeat the same in the December elections” he stated.
Anthony Karbo called on President Mahama to fight corruption ruthlessly regardless of who the perpetrators are, “to showcase to the world your resolve and uprightness in dealing with the social canker”.
On the NPP’s chances in next month’s elections, he said the “elephant is walking into the Flagstaff House and there is no turning back”.
“Change is inevitable; this change cannot be stopped. Not even the Electoral Commission or the security agencies can stop it” he stressed.
