The immediate past National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr Kwabena Adjei is convinced that one of the cardinal factors that led President John Mahama losing the 2016 elections was the fact that he didn’t listen to the wise counsel of senior party members.
According to him, the former President surrounded himself with young handlers who were inexperienced, a situation that militated against Mr Mahama’s success.
The NDC was defeated in the 2016 elections losing to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The three-time Flagbearer of the NPP, Akufo-Addo beat the incumbent John Mahama with over a million votes to emerge the winner, with the NPP also winning majority of seats in Parliament.
Speaking on Starr Chat Wednesday, Dr. Kwabena Adjei told host Bola Ray that delegates of the NDC must be blamed for the defeat of NDC.
“The handlers were all young, inexperienced and they misled him. I will say this anywhere without any fear or favour. We the old ones come with experience, he should have listened to us.”
Dr Kwabena Agyei, however, said he was not ready to blame any particular person for the party’s loss, adding that all NDC members must be responsible for the painful defeat.
“We are all responsible for it, I cannot exonerate myself from that responsibility.”
