The campaign team of President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State in the Volta region, Togbe Afede XIV and Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi of Abeadze on their election as the president and vice president of the National House of Chiefs respectively.
Togbe Afede secured 25 votes to beat four other contestants in a keenly contested election on Thursday at the national secretariat of the House of Chiefs at Manhyia in Kumasi, Ashanti region.
Paramount Chief of Abeadze Traditional Area in the Central Region was elected as the Vice President of the National House of Chiefs after obtaining 28 votes.
A statement issued and signed by Ms Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Spokesperson for the John Mahama 2016 campaign team Thursday evening urged the new leadership to work hard.
“In extending our congratulations, we also wish to challenge the new leadership of the Chieftaincy Institution to work hard and build on the efforts of the outgoing executives,” the campaign team said in the statement.
It also urged all chiefs to help in their communities to guarantee peaceful, free and fair general elections on December 7.
