President John Mahama has appealed to Ghanaian voters to guard and protect their thumbs for him ahead of the December 7 polls.
This advice the President believes will help reduce the number of voters rejected by the biometric verification machines on Election Day.
Speaking at a mini rally at Sabronum in the Asunafo South East constituency in the Ashanti region President Mahama charged residents to step out and vote in their numbers come December 7.
He asked party supporters in the region not to entertain any fear on voting day regardless of the fact that they reside in a region considered to be a stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party.
“Nobody should entertain any fear on Election Day. The law allows you to vote as a Ghanaian regardless of which part of the country you find yourself. On Election Day come out and vote. Prepare your thumbs very well. We are exactly a month away from Election Day, just 30 days to go. I wouldn’t want anything to happen to your thumb within the one month.
“Especially, my wives and sisters, when chopping tomatoes and onions in the kitchen, be careful so you don’t hurt your thumbs,” he advised.
“Take good care of the thumb for me. Why am I saying this? This is a serious message I’m putting across because the biometric verification devices will reject you on voting day if you hurt your fingers. This is why I’m giving you this message. It’s a serious matter. So my wives when chopping the tomatoes, take good care of your thumbs for me okay?” Mahama added.
Mr Mahama went on to disclose some roads in the community have been awarded on contracts to be fixed. He touched on government’s free inputs for cocoa farmers and plans of government to engage over 40,000 youth under the youth employment programme in the next NDC administration.
President Mahama is on a four-day campaign tour of the Ashanti region ahead of the December polls.
