One person died on the spot when a taxicab in an attempt to prevent knocking a mentally deranged person, collided head-on with a mini bus at Dumasua, near Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region.
Three other passengers on-board the taxicab, which was travelling from Sunyani to Berekum, also sustained various degrees of injuries, TV3’s Laary Paa Kwesi Moses reported
Fourteen of the 15 passengers in the urvan mini bus that was also moving from Berekum to Sunyani escaped unhurt. However, the driver, Collins Osei, had fracture on his right. The accident happened Friday at about 1:30pm near a curve at Dumasua when the lunatic was said to have crossed the highway without looking out for vehicular traffic, our correspondent reported.
Police say the driver of the taxicab swerved the known lunatic but unfortunately smashed the front passenger side of the mini bus, leading to the death of a 56-year-old Louis Osei from Nsuatre.
Brong-Ahafo Regional MTTD Commander, Supt. Asirifi Oppong who confirmed the accident to our correspondent said the taxicab was seriously damaged due to the impact of the collision.
The entire frontage of the cab (bonnet area) was ripped off while the right side of was also mangled. The minus bus had the front passenger side mangled and the windscreen broken, Laary reported. The number plate of the taxicab could not be traced because of the extent of the damage. The Police gave the registration number of the mini bus as As 4820-16.
