LIONS Clubs International has launched its centennial celebrations in Multiple District ‘403’ in Accra.
The celebrations, which will be hosted by Ghana has the theme: “Where there is a need, there is a Lion.”
Outlining activities earmarked for the celebrations and the Multiple District 403 Convention at a press briefing, chairperson of the Organising Committee of the programme, Lion Mrs. Gloria Esi Lassey, said that Ghana was selected among over 27 countries to host the programme.
According to her, this was the second time Ghana was hosting Multiple District 403 Convention which is estimated to host about 1000 delegates from May 3rd to 7th 20017. The first one was in 2002.
“The Multiple District 403 is made up of 29 countries in West & Central Africa, the Islands in the Indian Ocean. Also participating will be the Leadership of Lions Clubs International and delegates from USA, Canada, Europe and Asia” she added.
Activities lined up include a welcome cocktail, a parade of all the delegations, plenary sessions, workshops, seminars, and training sessions for Lion Officers, election of new leaders for the district and the Multiple District and a gala night.
Lion Esi Lassey added that Lions Clubs in its 100 years of existence have worked to improve their communities through projects and programmes.
“The Clubs have undertaken projects such as building or refurbishing school buildings, provision of disaster/relief items, libraries, hospitals, wards and provision of potable water,” she added.
