Liberty Professionals denied Elmina Sharks a chance to pick the maximum points at home after a hard fought 1-1 draw in the week 9 fixture of the Ghana Premier League.
Mercurial winger, Benjamin Tweneboah, threw the Nduom Sports Complex into extreme ecstasy in the 2nd minute when he slotted in the opener past Liberty Professionals goalkeeper, Emmanuel Ennim.
The man of the match wasted no time to tap in the much needed start for coach Kobina’s Ammisah’s side after finishing off a through pass from Captain Joseph Mensah. Sharks continued to pile pressure on Liberty Professionals after the opener when Captain Joseph Mensah shot wide in a brave effort through the scientific soccer lad’s defence.
Liberty Professionals lifted their game with a combination of efforts through experienced striker Ernest Papa Arko and Ben Arthur after a blend from the duo proved a mouthful for the Sharks defenders.
Elmina Sharks goalkeeper, Francis Arthur was called to action when an audacious strike from Ernest Papa Arko nearly equalised for Liberty Professionals in the 24 minute.
Shouts of injustice however preceded the end of the first half when Elmina Sharks captain Joseph Mensah was denied a penalty by referee Ernest Baafi after an infringement on the edge of the penalty box.
The Scientific Soccer lads continued from where they left off in the first half, as they increased the pressure on the home side. Their efforts were rewarded in the 68th minute when striker, Ernest Papa Arko, long range shot beat goalkeeper, Francis Arthur, to level the scores.
Elmina Sharks defenders failed to block a through pass from Bernard Arthur on the flanks to allow Papa Arko the needed space to curl the ball the ball that delightfully beat goalkeeper Francis Arthur to level the scores.
The Fearsome Sharks could have sealed the winner in the 88th minute when striker Felix Addo through pass by Benjamin Tweneboah was blasted the ball into waiting arms of goalkeeper Emmanuel Enim much to the dismay of their teeming supporters who thronged the stadium.
Elmina Sharks will travel to Bolgatanga to face Bolga All Stars while Liberty Professionals will return to the Carl Reindolph Park in Dansoman to welcome Aduana Stars.
