AFTER 60 years of independence from our colonial rulers, it is important as a country that we use dialogue instead of violence to resolve our national issues. Today believes that through dialogue, the country will be able to maintain the peace that will ensure the growth of businesses, as well as entrepreneurial development.
WHETHER in politics, at the business front or at personal levels, we should not forget the fact that, we are one people with a common goal. This therefore requires that we treat each other with civility, discuss issues passionately, criticise constructively, and disagree to agree for the good of the nation we are all striving to better every day.
IN fact, what we need to understand is that, there is no way we can achieve our national goals if we fail to appreciate the fact that, a polarised nation cannot achieve anything meaningful for its people. The people in this country have had enough of politicians, dribbling us like a football where only their interests matter and not the collective interest of the people. The politics of deceit and lies would not stand, moving forward.
GHANAIANS deserve better and so, everyone who holds a leadership position, whether as a chief at the community level, a parliamentarian at the constituency level, a teacher, a priest, a doctor, a nurse or a journalist, wherever we find ourselves shaping minds and behaviours, we should aim to build an atmosphere of peace and unity. Ghana is for all of us and we have no any other place to call as our country if we do not protect our own.
IT is for this reason that, we sometimes find it disturbing when our leaders turn to fight over trivial issues. We understand that in building a democratic society, dialogue is a key ingredient in addressing issues of national interest.
THIS brings to the fore the need for our leaders, particularly, politicians to avoid the use of intemperate words which have the tendency to plunge this country into chaos. This is because countries which treaded on such path on the continent economically lost a great deal as they were hit by wars. Realistically speaking, we are done with politics and have entered the period of building the nation behind an elected president.
AS we mark 60 years of independence, Today is of the view that the time is ripe for us to come together as one and forge ahead with a mindset to build a peaceful, prosperous country for posterity to enjoy. Let our leaders, particularly our politicians, see politics as central in creating a peaceful environment since their followers take cues from them. Where there is division, peace will not thrive and we have seen it happen in other countries, including our neighbours.
PEACE and unity is all that we need beyond 60 years of independence, anything short of that can spell doom for us. United we shall stand and divided we will surely fall.
