Drama unfolded in the Bakaekyir suburb of Sekondi in the Western Region when a suspected laptop thief dived into the sea on two occasions to escape lynching from an angry mob.
The suspect, George Armoo, in his 20s was arrested by some residents of Ekuase, an adjoining community of Bakaekyir with a laptop which the residents claimed he stole from the neighborhood at about 2:00 am on Tuesday, 25th October, 2016.
The suspicious residents who have been complaining of upsurge in robbery in recent times angrily pounced on the suspect, beat him mercilessly and tied him to a tree.
The suspect reportedly tried several times to escape by diving into the sea but he was pursued in all attempts and rearrested.
He was finally taken to a spot near Essei beach where he was tied to a tree in an attempt to kill him but the Assembly member of the Area, Ishmael Bravo rushed to whisk him away to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for attention after receiving a distress call from a Good Samaritan.
The well built suspect has since been identified as George Armoo who has been lodging with a friend in Sekondi
He is still receiving treatment at the Hospital.
