Fifteen shop owners were on Saturday arrested and fined by a joint Sanitation Taskforce in the La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality (LaNMMA)for undertaking business activities, whilst the National Sanitation Day (NSD), was being observed.
Each shop owner was fined GH100.00 each.
Meanwhile the NSD exercise, which started at 0600 attracted market women and various groupings including the Concerned Citizens of Madina, Face of Madina, the Ghana Muslim Tailors Association led by Mr Prince Kissiedu.
They assisted in cleaning exercise from the Zongo Junction to the Madina Taxi Rank.
LaNMMA and Zoomlion staff were also in attendance to cart away filth collected from various drains.
Mr Joseph Quacoe, the LaNMMA Municipal Environmental Officer, said the cleaning activities covered various areas including: Ritz junction, Atomic junction, Madina market, lorry stations, Randy Pharmacy area, Rawlings Circle and the Oyarifa township.
Equipment for the cleanup exercise were supplied by the Assembly with Alliance Waste providing a compaction vehicle used for carting away the collected refuse.
Mr Franklin Anku, the Municipal Chief Executive and Alhaji Dramani Saakah, the Co-ordinating Director, also participated in the exercise.
